Topic 2: Skipping meals

Skipping meals may seem like an easy way to lose weight, but it can actually lead to weight gain if we eat more later to make up for what we missed. Even if we are very busy with school and activities, it is important not to skip meals. It is essential to follow these tips so that our body will be full during the day and that we will stay healthy:

  • We eat breakfast every day. Breakfast helps the body function. If we don’t have enough time in the morning, we take something with us, for example an apple or a banana.
  • Pack a lunch during school days. Packing a lunch can help you control food and drink portions and increase the chances that you’ll eat it because you made it.
  • Let’s go to dinner with the family. If you and your family eat home-cooked meals, you are more likely to eat healthy foods. Having a meal together also gives you a chance to reconnect with each other and share news about your day.
  • Participate in grocery shopping and meal planning at home. Shopping for food and planning and preparing meals with family members or friends can be fun. Not only can you choose your favorite grocery store and healthy foods and recipes, you also have the opportunity to help others in your family eat healthy. Teens who eat breakfast may do better in school. Eating breakfast can improve your memory and help you stay focused during the school day.
